Regarding the battery charger: its not needed for the update steps because there is no need to keep the key in ignition ON state or car turned on. Map uploading 2.5 Hours(!), Activation 5 minutes.

They sometimes can be had for under $350ДЇor Xcarlink, here is the one others have used: If you go with the Dension 500, make sure it's the correct one - GW51MO2. These can be found on ebay and such for as cheap as $250 or so. These are basically splitters that you plug into back of CD and AMI together then they plug into car. If you are keeping CD and adding AMI next to it, you will need power wiring harness #4F0051592A and fiber optic adapter #4E0972645.
